PIA promotes public awareness and debate about issues that affect people and planet by amplifying the voices of grassroots, nonprofit organizations whose research and work are often left out of the mainstream media’s narrative. We utilize media and public policy to advance public interest through a three-fold strategy of:
- Educating the public on issues that both help and harm communities
- Amplifying the voices of grassroots nonprofits through strategic media partnerships and our weekly Public Interest Journal
- Working with nonprofits, advocates, and experts to draft and promote model legislation that is in the public interest
Through our weekly publication, the PI Journal, we increase awareness about the most pressing issues that impact people and planet.
Our E-Library is full of infographic and document resources that members can use to deepen their understanding of a variety of issues that impact the public interest sector.
Our Legislative Action Portal enables members to identify policy issues that are directly affecting communities and that are either within or outside of the best interest of the public. Policy submissions to our Legislative Action Portal are investigated and evaluated for their potential impact on the public, as well as the need for PIA to conduct specialized outreach to communities in the path of impact for those policies. This enables citizens to have their voices heard and enlists support from the leading national organization advancing media and policy in the public interest.
Our public interest Town Halls provide an opportunity for citizens to connect and dialogue on issues that affect their communities. Armed with a deep understanding of those issues, citizens are free and better able to discuss and articulate solutions.
We provide educational trainings on a variety of topics related to economic justice, social justice, and climate justice. These trainings illuminate some of the most pressing issues and challenges affecting the public interest sector and are led by our organizational partners, experts, and seasoned advocates.
